Solid set up there sir. I usually will catch the semis and onward. I don't really get into the early rounds.

I generally only catch it on coincidence. Its better than baseball but not enough for me to watch it regularly.

^ yeah, it requires getting into. As for the French Open, I generally don't like watching clay court... but one of my favorite players does well on clay so I tend to watch most of her matches. It also used to be that Federer was dominant at all surfaces but clay.

Early rounds are kind of boring. But some players who I generally keep track of (lol Blake) get knocked out. Luckily I was able to catch an exceptionally good match yesterday with a player I hadn't heard of before.

The ladies singles is far more interesting, in general.

I cant believe the action this year. That williams sister was pretty upset about the ball hitting that other bitch on the arm.

lol Nadal losing to that guy. He didn't even play well.
Of the players left on the mens draw, Gonzalez and Federer should do fine. For the womens... I basically dislike the majority of those left. But for the love I god I hope Kuznetsova doesn't win.

lol you actually watched it? Serena was pretty upset about it, but she came back and won which is all that really matters.
I can't believe Davydenko is still in, he always manages to get to the semi's before (I think) he loses on purpose. I think it's a bit of a joke how well he plays the first set then bombs the last sets.

Glad Federer won today!
He'll surely win the title now!

I'm glad. I was annoyed that Sodenlinks or whatever his name is won against Gonzalez.
Ramona
06/05/2009, 01:23 PM
I think Gonzalez wasn't playing to his best, he waited until he was 2 sets down before hitting any big serves. If he had done that from the start he would have won.
Was a deserved win.

Wow, after the first 3 sets I thought Federer was done for. I'm glad he won :ohyes

Safina better win the ladies singles :kya

I only watched the end of the fourth set and the beginning of the fifth, I just don't like Sod's attitude, it's not endearing. Naturally he doesn't play to please me, but I hope he loses.

Nearly finished and no thread? Blasphemy.
Cmon Murray :wah
Daenerys
07/01/2009, 12:39 PM
whenever I watch Murray eh seems to fluke wins, the balls always fall in his favour or his opponent seems to be having a chuunin lvl day. Not really impressed by him. Otherwise, I'm sort of sad Marion Bartoli didn't make an appearance, I really like her play. And Klara Zakopalova losing in the first round :mad.
Ramona
07/01/2009, 12:47 PM
Did you not watch the Murray match today?
Daenerys
07/01/2009, 01:13 PM
I watched the first set, not the rest. But to be fair, my complaint is from last year and the years before. Murray's game two days ago was fantastic.
I don't have a favorite in the remaining ladies draw. I expect both Williams sisters to advance to the final, but the Dementieva/Venus match should be interesting. Rankings aside, Murray is a better player than Roddick, so Murray/Federer championship.
Orochimaru
07/01/2009, 05:13 PM
I've always supported Federer so I hope he wins this time. Murray annoys me, not because of what he does, but because of the stupid way the British media covers it, only talking about him and always over hyping him.
Daenerys
07/03/2009, 01:54 PM
Dementieva match was excellent. lol Safina just getting rolled over. That's part of what I don't like about the female players, they really lack consistency. I do not care who she is playing, a top seeded player should never lose 6-0 6-1 or whatever abominable result she had. Very few players in that draw are consistent, Justine Henin was probably the last.
I'm rather surprised Roddick won, and he played a lot better than I normally see from him. He looked really inspired on the court.

And typically, the British hope loses in the semi final. He prolly would have won if there wasn't so much fuss, hype and pressure put on him. After years of watching Tim suffer the same thing, I'm actually sad for Murray, even though I don't really like him. Hopefully this won't keep happening.

Sad for what? He played fantastic all tournament was just against a better player. If he never wins a big tournament it doesn't bother me...

I've never seen Roddick play as well as he did against Murray. It was, simply, the best match I've seen him play in 6 years. Murray is bound to win one once Federer/Nadal slip.
I'm not a big fan of Murray, he seems like a douchebag to me. Meh, I will probably always support Federer, and chances are always good he'll win.

Has Andy ever beaten Roger?
Because every time there seems to be a match with those two Roger seems to be the winner

Yes he has. Just not in a while and not very often.
Daenerys
07/08/2009, 08:57 AM
no one has really defeated Roder Federer often. But he wasn't up to form in the final. I doubt he will win as many matches as he has previously. I hesitate to say this, but Nadal would have defeated him in the final if they were playing against each other.
Wilham
07/08/2009, 09:49 AM
Nadal has beaten Federer often and honestly if Nadal was healthy he would've won. I had some hope that Roddick would pull it out but no dice. He's beaten Federer twice in his career and it would've been sweet to see him beat Federer in the finals of his best tourny.
Orochimaru
07/09/2009, 11:41 AM
Nadal's game matches up well with Federer's due to the huge amount of topspin that he generates and the fact that he's left handed. However, Nadal's style of play comes at a price, which is that it's too hard on his body. If he wasn't that hard then he wouldn't be as successful. That's why Federer, for the time being, is greater. His style of play preserves his body and he can therefore play for longer.

Sometimes I wonder if it would not be best just to have one single tennis thread instead of making individual threads for every open. That way other tournaments and results/information can be discussed.
Anyway, it's that time again: Aussie Open. I was just thinking about who I wanted to win on the women's side and realised I didn't know or particularly care. :( Justine Henin come back plox.
Mens will undoubtedly be another Federer/Nadal final
Daenerys

So Maria Sharapova on her way out on the first round. On the first day no less.

Sharapova's the hottest thing in Tennis.
:(
It's a shame she's out so quickly.
And I'm not a fan of Hennin or the Williams sisters.
Also, lol @ fed going for thirteen straight wins at Soderling.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I wonder why no one told me Justine Henin was out of retirement to play in this tournament. I do not think she will go far even though I want her too, but I would love to watch one of her matches. :hearts
babypanda: lol, I only like seeing Nadal play on clay or when he makes the Championship game (read: Federer) an exciting match. I hate blowouts in the later stages, which is why the ladies championship is so frustrating. Murray was playing yesterday, how did he plat?
I want Gonzalez to get another chance against Soderling... and win decisively.
I've never honestly found Sharapova terribly attractive, the same with Anna Kournikova. But there is one player who's name I never recall, she is just fantastic to look at. I have a sneaking suspicion it's Hantuchova or Kirilenko.

Daenerys

^lol, I never even noticed that. I don't even like blondes normally.
Soderling out :kewl
Justine Henin defeated Dementieva, fucking win. After being retired for so long she still managed to defeat the 5 seed LOL. I wish I had enough room on my DVR to record this Aussie Open, as it is I miss a good majority of the games.
Daenerys
01/28/2010, 12:28 PM
lol Justine Henin.
From what I've seen there hasn't been any "spectacular" tennis play on the women's side. No real sense of hitting the ball with authority, except for maybe the one game Kirilenko played against Zheng in the beginning of the second set. Otherwise the rest have just been meh.
Murray playing well, Cilic also.
Ramona
01/28/2010, 12:33 PM
Henin looks the strongest in the womens, but Willaims is always good in finals.
Glad to see Murray in the Final, hope he plays Roger!

Decided not the make this thread until the third round, since it's about now that the good stuff (supposedly) starts to happen. Honestly for the women's draw any round is worth watching, since in all probability your favourite (barring Williams) will be knocked out early.
Anyway, mentionable departures so far: Klara Zakopalova (but she lost to Justine Henin so it wasn't bad), Marion Bartoli :T_T , Kuznetsova, Ana Ivanovic (embarrassing), Safina. And looks like Sharapova is on her way out right now.
For the mens: Baghdatis, Roddick Hewitt, Monfils, Gonzalez are out.
Justine Henin for her 5th French Open title ;X3

I can't see beyond Nadal or Federer again. I'd like Murray to win, but it's not his favoured surface.
Daenerys

I love watching Nadal on clay, not because he wins but because it just looks so elegant. Not that it matters now since I haven't watched a single match, ESPN 2 not working for the past couple of days :mad
Federer lost to Soderling :/, and Henin out. I guess if ESPN 2 finally decides to work I'll root for Dementieva
Daenerys
08/14/2010, 12:15 PM
what in the world is happening to Kuznetsova? I'm watching a WTA US Open Series and she's playing horribly. I think her ranking also dropped from like (IIRC) 4 to 21.
:lmao
just means Bartoli is that much closer to number one <3
Daenerys
08/28/2010, 02:00 PM
US Open Series match between Dementieva and Bartoli was pretty interesting. It didn't feel like a match between the 4 & 6 seeds, but better than other stuff I have been watching.
Sharapova is also doing very well recently. I tend to dislike her playing style but she has been exciting.
Also, HOLY SHIT Baghdatis running circles around Nadal. Such an epic match.
edit: CAROLINE WOZNIACKI who the fuck is this chick and why is she so awesome?
