Alrighty Alrighty Let's Fire this up.

Basic Rules on how I will run this:
First and foremost: This will be a party based campaign so right off the bat playing a Neutral Evil and a Chaotic Evil are extremely discouraged because those characters will more than likely not be able to cooperate with the main party.

Second: I need at least 4 people to start the campaign and where you start off depends if you can all agree on a starting point or I will pick one randomly.

Third: We will be going by an honor system. There are online dice rolling applications and I will ask you to use them and honestly give me the number rolled on the dice I ask you to roll and the dice you usually roll such as an 8 sided dice for a weapon. However, if you critical three times in a row or many times over the course of the current mission or quest. I consider this god modding because you are always succeeding and there is no challenge and it takes away the fun. However, you can lie if you think it will improve the battle. I will allow you to "take a one." It means an instant failure and if you can give me a reason as for why you wanted to a take a one I can roll with it or I can just say people roll a dice.

Fourth: Diversity please. It's not exactly a fun game when everyone is an elf or a rogue. Try to pick a class or race you will have fun playing. The limitations in Race and Class will not be listed because I will give you either a go ahead or a no.

Fifth: Give your character, character and keep them in character. Looking back on the fourth rule, if you can create a back story that is intriguing and explains why your character is here or why they fight the way they do then I will more likely than not give you a go ahead to play. As for the second part, people don't metagame the campaign.

Example: You are in a small village full of farmers and local militia and you have found a note written in a non-Common language. Do not assume that there will be no one that will be able to read the note. Ask questions to people. What would your character do? Would he use magic to read it? Would he just crumple it up and toss it away? Would your character run around frantically trying to find someone to read it?

Sixth: About Posts: Okay this is a party game and while I do like nice hardy paragraphs, I will try to keep this action based and you engaged, so short and sweet descriptive 3-7 sentences as a response or just typing:

I rolled a 19 and got a critical hit and rolled a 6 on my 8 damage die.

That is good but why not add afterward description to the attack?

I rolled a 19 and got a critical hit and rolled a 6 on my 8 damage die.

Jasper gripped the handle of his longsword tightly and the enemy! He took a stutter step and with in that instance I lunged forward stabbing the zombie through the chest impaling its lifeless body upon my sword.

Also, Bold, Underline and Italic or put in quotes, make your characters actions, thoughts and your thoughts/out of character comments know and label them as such.

Seventh: Unfairness: If I as the DM or another player is being unfair in some respect call it out. Example: You feel the boss fight was absurdly hard for the loot earned. That does happen. You fend off 20 or so zombies just to find the chest is empty? It's cliche and it might happen because I will be rolling percent dice for rewards.

Eighth: Post your characters and level them up appropriately. Use this thread. to do so. As for stats the group has to agree. I will make it a 30-36 point buy or I will give you 6 numbers that you can place where you want for stats.
Use books and pages to refer to feats, races, classes and etc and post the book and page.

Ninth: NPC's are here to help! Please engage my NPC's for buying, information, going ons, travel, flying ships, and etc!

More to edit later :3

Will add more later along with some of the book links.

Well I need four people. Three at the bare bare minimum >_<
So I guess a week after the third person signs up?

Hell If you really want I can run a two person campaign and people can join in later on.

I have some plot for that :wah

Gah. I have too look for the books now :<
And I don't torrent >_>

I guess starting up NWN and just making a character there and writing down the stats might work too? xD

not necessary because i might give you guys the 6 stats values and you put them where you want.
Plus with D&D you start with 8's in all stats, then you buy points and then the racial values come like dwarf gets +2 CON and -2 CHA after the point buy

Milky

I see. more like in Temple of Elemental Evil then (but I think that game is set in Greyhawk)

I'll just use the manual then! ^__^

01/28/2010, 06:33 AM
Also did you run across the class and race manuals? :O
Or are these the rulebooks/handbooks? :O

EDIT: Guys
I found a race list :heh

I think those are in the players handbook. and then there's a monster manual. i got two versions of those. one in 3 parts, but you can search it, while the one I uploaded seem to be scanned instead.

I can start with three though and well we will see from there :kewl

So far you guys will get an extra level 1 feat and will start with 300 Gold :3
I want you guys to be a little beefy :3

EDIT:
Okay
I need a vote on how the stats will go and how and where you guys will start!

Stats:
I give you 6 numbers and those will be your stats
or
Your base stats will be 8 and you have a 30 point buy:
9-14: you spend one point for each rank
15-16: You need to spend 2 for each rank
17-18: 3 points

Example:
Getting from 8 to 13 is 5 points
Getting from 8 to 16 is 10 points because 8 to 14 is 6 but 14 to 15 is 2 and 15 to 16 is 2 and thus 10 total.

Also starting place:
Big City that don't know the name of yet :kewl
But you will decide where to go from there :heh

But yeah Romney has all the books :argh
Alright we have 3 people and possibly a fourth :heh

Alright guys
I need your votes for stuff:

Plot Campaign:
The Forgotten Name of the World

Where do you wanna start?
City in the Center of the World
The Undead Drifts
The Silver Mountains
The Mist Forest

Also What do you want for stats?
Start with all stats at 8 and then 30 point buy?
Or I give you 6 numbers and you get better than average stats?

Milky
01/28/2010, 12:14 PM
I'm fine with you deciding all that Johnny. :ho

I'm gonna follow the book and try creating a character for now. I can of course redo it to fit your rules (you essentially being the DM and all) ^^

I'm lost. :mori
What character races/classes can I pick from, and what stat catagories do I have to spend my points on?

Alright Juggy if you get on MSN we can do this the very easy way.
If not milky posted the link to the first books.
Player's Handbook is what you should read.

If you are MSN I can help you alot quicker.

Actually I have decided and you guys with get 6 stats values since point buy will be a bit more complicated for you guys.

Basically Juggs
you have
STR: I smash you with weapons :hyah
DEX: I use two weapons / Shoots arrows / Dodge stuffz
CON: I haz moar Healthz! :3
WIS: I resist magic burny spells / cast spells for certain classes / do certain skills like listen ot see things better :kewl
INT: I are skilled and know how to do stuff / cast spells for certain classes / smarter / can talk properly / read / understand more languages
CHA: I r handsome/pretty/intimidating/diplomatic and I r make you agree with me. :yosh

----
Then there are skills bases on your INT modifier and class points. And you get ranks in them to help you. Like Swim so you ya know. Dont drown and die :onoz
Like a Fighter can put skill into riding a horse. And every now and then i will make you take a check where you depending on what you roll + your points in that skill either: fall off the horse, ride the horse or make the horse jump over a wall and you land: Okay, perfect or fall off the horse mid jump.
But some skills like intimidate are Charisma based. Like let's say you get 3 shady characters rolling up on you. You can say with intimidate: I can kill you or maybe you should get away from here if you dont want trouble.

Race is basically what you want your character to be and maybe what you will have fun playing with.
Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Aasimar, Teifling, etc etc list goes on and on.
Each have there ups and down.
Like after you do your stats/attributes some races have bonuses. Like a Dwarf will get a -2 CHA permanently but he will get more CON +2. Takes a hit in social skills but gets beefy :heh

Also some races cannot hold a longsword because they are so short like Halflings but they are harder to hit since there is less of those shorties to hit. Hell some races can hold a Greataxe in each hand with no problem. And some have skills bonuses. Like some races can spot and hear better. Some can jump and climb better. Some can hide and attack better.

Some races also get spells. Like an Aasimar can cast light. Good for traveling at night or in the dark :heh

As for jobs oh shit Juggy. I found the extended books. The number of classes/jobs you can choose is beyond retarded >_<

Basically there are tanks: Frontline people that will be trading hits and drawing attention like fighters, samurai, barbarians, paladins, Str based druids

Support characters like Rogues for extra damage, rangers to sic a wolf on people, clerics paladins and druids to heal / or people that can talk fast and steal. Conning people and having money are good too :wah

Also Rogues can disable traps and open locked doors.
Or you can just gung ho the door :heh

Damage: Wizard and Sorceress usually sit here because oh god fire ice and dropping avalanches oh my >_< plus some buff like idk
Making your sword on fire so you inflict normal and fire damage.

I've been reading the monster book like crazy, there's some really creepy shit in there. like the Charnel Hound :argh

gonna do my chara today. roll the dice Jonneh!!!
Human fighter I think. I got a fever and my throat is sore so I hope my head is where I want it when I jot down the points. do you assign starting gold or should I follow the manual?

skipping the stats for now, I'm a Human Fighter, using the starter pack for equipment, but I want to change some stuff there (I don't want a great sword for example, but rather a shield and some other 1Hand weapon, if that's ok). Johnny, feel free to help me out over msn later. I will post a proper character 'roster' when we're done with creating teh character. :V

or should I use a halberd, I love halberds >__>

Johnnu
01/29/2010, 05:28 AM
actually guys I finished the dice and milky was there and your stat values that you can place anywhere are:
18
17
16
15
14
13

>_>
You can ask Milky
The dice love you guys

Also you start with 350 gold to buy basic gear
like scale mail and a greataxe for example and you keep the rest
no potions or magic items

because i usually make better ones with my imagination

also you get an extra feat added for your class :3

Milky

Here's my character.

he's a wandering Mercenary, taking up random jobs, mostly filling in guard spots for a week or two or the rare hiring into battle, he's also known to join adventurers if it seems profitable.
He is of medium build, slightly shorter than the average human. short, dark brown hair and a thin beard goes along his jawline and chin. he's not very talkative unless it involves the mission or planning, he is also rather cynical by nature.

Krotar
01/29/2010, 11:52 PM
Ooo! I wanna join, too! I made a sheet and everything!

Backstory: Krotar's grandfather was an expert enchanter. He made many great and powerful items, but his proudest achievement was the Prism Song Flute*. The enchanment weaved upon this instrument allowed the player, through extreme concentration, to alter the sound that escaped the flute to whatever sound the player could imagine. As miraculous as this was, he had trouble finding customers capable of using it properly, as it required an excellent imagination. Just when he was about to give up on it, Krotar (seven years old at the time) got his hands on it and was able to play it splendidly. He then gave it to the young boy as a gift. As the years went on, Krotar's skill with the flute grew. When he reached the age of sixteen, his grandfather asked him to go on a journey with the flute. He hoped that the journey would show the world the instrument's potential, and thus, make it a far more desirable product. Krotar eagerly agreed, and set off. However, unbenownst to him, his grandfather died only one year after he began his journey. He often writes home to keep in tough with his folks, but they haven't the heart to tell him his grandfather is dead.

Age: 18
Height: 5'10''
Weight: 170 lbs.
Appearance: Krotar has crimson hair, jade eyes, and a cheery smile. Underneath his armor, he wears a red martial-artist's shirt, baggy blue cloth pants, sturdy brown boots, a large green collar, a chain necklace with a cheap red orb attatched, a beige sash, a fingerless leather glove on his left hand and a leather bracer on his right. He often has some stubble on his face, but he shaves often enough so it is barely noticable.
Personality: Krotar is an upbeat and cheery lad with a good heart. He has an extremely active imagination and tends to get bored easily. When he is bored or wants to relax, he retreats to his flute. He gets along easily with people, enjoys telling jokes and stories, and only tends to dislike people who are either deceitful or plain-and-simple assholes. He has a strong sense of justice and is quick to help those who are being wronged. It is his deepest desire to find a way to use the flute's enchantment to make a new sound, different from all others, by combining all he's heard in his travels.

You took an extra Feat for lvl 1 yes?
Stats looks good.

On two conditions/questions/overall ideas you get the flute:
You have to tell me where I can find it so I can look at how powerful it is or you have to tell me its powers/abilities.
If its uber hax then i might set it to a it lvl's up with item/or unlock its power through events/challenges but you will be able to keep it.

Also if its not in the books what is it made of? What happens if it were to be damaged? What does it do? And more details about it please! (Old campaign bard had something like this too and well... :kewl)

Also after we get this all sorted out just have I will let you have some gold if we scale it properly? K? :3

((Put up the rest of my skill points. Forgot that my INT modifier gave me an extra four))

As far as I know, I made it up, so I don't think you can find it anywhere. As for its abilities, it lets me mimic sounds. For example, I can play a guitar solo on my flute. It can also mimic voices, but I'd need to have heard the voice first and can only mimic what I heard, like a parrot. For example, if I heard a corrupt government official monologuing to himself about how he's spending the town's educational funds on prostitutes, I could play it back with my flute if I remembered it well enough. I'd say the limit on voice mimicry would be two or three days since I last heard it. As for stat bonuses, I'd say all it does is allow my Perform(Woodwind) skill to multitask as all the other Perform(Music) stuff. If I use it for Perform(Singing), then it takes on my voice. If I use it as anything besides a flute, it requires me to deal with a strict concentration check if someone tries to trip me up. If I just play it as a flute, though, it's not as big a deal since I'm not evoking its enchantment. As for what it's made of...Silver, I guess. That's a magically malleable material, right? Good for enchantments and whatnot. If it gets damaged, I'd have to get it repaired, I guess. Since my grandfather's dead, that'll be difficult. I'd probably have to get my parents to send me my grandfather's notes, then find an enchanter skilled enough to understand them and have him repair it.

Is that enough info for you? I don't think I missed anything.

That's good enough. I was wondering if it made thunder come from the skies and hit all enemies for 8d8 electrical damage xD

But basically you can use songs with it since its an instrument. So song/counter song/distraction etc etc

Btw this is my universe. Wood can be a magical metal if I willed it. Get it?:kewl

Broken? As the enemies or events that make it not work there are will that undo that too :kewl

How about this: every 3rd bard level its gets a rank better?

Lvl 3: +3
Lvl 6: +4
Lvl 9: +5

Backstory: Tripshit's parents were killed by humans soon after his birth in some war. He was left to fend for himself in hostile goblin environment, growing up eating garbage and bugs and the like. To compound his problems, he was blessed/cursed with a human like voice and above average intelligence for his race, which set him at odds with the adults of his tribe. The tribe was a group of nomad goblins who traveled from forest to forest, ditching the warrior mentality of their predecessors after the previous war and adopting a more peaceful and cowardly approach to existance, fleeing and leaving all things at the first sign of trouble. The tribe actually attempted to sell Tripshit off into slavery once or twice, but luckily that always fell through. When he came of age, he abandoned his tribe and struck out on his own. He made his living by using his seductive voice to lure children and weaker adults into his swamp before robbing them or even holding them for ransom, though he never killed anyone.
Age: unknown, young adulthood
Height: 5'0" because he's hunched
Weight: 140 lbs
Appearance: Tripshit has green skin, olive eyes, and usually either has a sinister grin or a look of indifference on his face. He wears muddy rags and poses as a human begger to pickpocket in human townships at night, but otherwise he wears tattered pants and a silver chain on his neck that used to belong to one of his parents (he stole it from his clan's treasures when he fled). He rarely shows his teeth as they're rotted and he's ashamed of his squalid upbringing.
Personality: He keeps his feelings buried and does well to not let petty emotions deter him from getting ahead in life. He has a sense of honor and comraderie, especially to animals he keeps as pets, but he has no honor in a fight. He's good with beasts more than people, but he's very adept at putting on a front to get in good with people and manipulating them by reading their emotions. He drinks lots of water to keep his voice sounding human and takes pride in it, as that's one of his meal tickets. He's never had many friends, but he does secretely long for them.

Name: Tripshit
Real Name: Ethan Desereaux
Race: Human
Age: 23
Blood type: O-
Job: Ranger
Allignment: Chaotic Neutral

Backstory: Ethan was born into a modest farming family, and he had many siblings both younger and older. One when about 6 years old, he wandered off on his own and was accosted by goblins. They captured him and took him away to eat or something, but because of their bungling he was able to flee them but was lost in the forest. He spent a solid week wandering around before he was found far from home, and then it took him a few more days to get home. When he returned home, he found that his funeral had already been had and that everyone had thought him dead. After that he began studying hunting and the ways of the ranger, plunging himself into it. And then, right when he came of age, he decided to stage his own death, remembering how easy it was for everyone to think he had died. He then went to live in the forest, becoming one with nature and living out his days hunting his preferred prey, the Goblins. He later went back to his family but then disappeared again, and currently no one in his home town knows if he is alive or dead. After awhile he all but dropped his real name for the nickname "Tripshit," which is the sound Goblins make when startled or frightened.

Appearance: Black hair, blue eyes, cold stare, sneering grin, farmer's tan, slim build, raspy voice

Personality: wanderer and vagabond, drinks only socially, prefers being on the move, enjoys loose women, doesn't care much about relationships, no clear goals in his life

It starts when I create the master thread.
And you choose the story and first adventure place :3

So what campaign?

Forgotten Name of the World
Or
Scream the Name of the Goddess

Adventures spots:
You start off in the Big City [which you dont know the name of yet :kewl] gear up and adventure there and then you decide to go:

The Silver Mountains
The Undead Drifts
The Mist Forest
The Iron Arctic [This place I will have to boost you guys 2-3 level minimum AFTER the intro and leveling there but I can "start" you here >_>]

Krotar

Am I the only one who had dirty thoughts when he heard "Scream the name of the Goddess"? As for my choice, I don't know what either of them entail. Finding out the name of a world sounds kinda boring, though, and anything with beings on a higher plane sounds pretty neat, so my choice'd be the Goddess one (And no, it's NOT because of aforementioned dirty thoughts.)

Johnnu

I do it by dice rolling usually to beat stuff such as Touch AC and Melee AC.

Plus while I label it D&D I have alot of custom spells gears goodies and quests and such :O

Hello everyone & Johnny,

If I am correct, before I place the finishing touches on my character I need to know. Our stats are : 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13. And we are level 6. Are there any home-brew rules that I need to know?

Backstory
Mia Barren, has been trained from an early age into the Necromantic Arts. She was taught that "Necromancy is not just one school of magic among many. It is an Art, one that requires the Artist's entire devotion." Mia is the bastard child of a mortal man and undead creature, as part of a ritual of an dark cult to train and control the Necromancers of the world.

Her father, Able Barren was a mortal man many years ago that became corrupted by necromancy, he lived to become one with the undeath. Through much research and years of practicing his arts, he discovered a secret cult, The Disciples of Undeath. [Knowledge (Religion) DC 25].
In a ritual to solidify his role within the cult, Able and mortal woman forced to make love on the alter to their evil god. The child from that union was Mia. [Knowledge (Arcana) DC 25].

Mia, is now a beautiful women of thirty years. She is tall, about 6'0'' with a slender figure with defined curves. She has long ebony hair that is twirled into a braid with soft, calm blue eyes. Her skin is pale, just as if she were undead but is kept smooth and soft to the touch. Mia usually wears elaborate black robes, along the trim of the hood and cuffs are engraved arcana runes. She carries a large scythe along with a heavy mace at her hips. One might notice when she looks to you, her eyes stare into your own even if one were room part and her seductive smile seems to call you to her

Johnny... were you planning on making your game more like a tabletop RPG? I think I remember you saying that you have indeed played the tabletop version before.

I have played the tabletop version indeed. And yes I am trying to run it like I would in real life which is obviously harder through the net. Out of Character and in character speech and such is allowed and there will be dice rolling and it's more story based than kick the door in and kill stuff although it will have fights plot wise and some if people wish to get into a drunken bar brawl as well.

Is there a particular/more narrow question you wanted to ask? Or did you just want my basic thoughts?

Tyki Mikk
02/10/2010, 09:27 AM
I suppose I could ask a slightly narrower question.

Were you going to employ the use of skills like Taunt, Diplomacy, Gather Information, and Intimidate into posts? Or is it whatever a player feels like posting?

Johnnu
02/10/2010, 09:48 AM
I suppose I could ask a slightly narrower question.

Were you going to employ the use of skills like Taunt, Diplomacy, Gather Information, and Intimidate into posts? Or is it whatever a player feels like posting?

Yes I would incorporate those. If it's a low DC such as a question about lodging or a decent bar which would fall under Gather Information then more than likely I'd give it for free.

Anyone can use Diplo, Taunt, Gather Info, or Intim to get what they want but eventually they will be rolling a dice.

Example you want to get a pair of shady characters out of the bar if they were causing trouble
Diplo can be: DC 10 - 15 : "Here is 5 gold each. Please leave."
Intim can be: DC 15 : "Get out or I will cut you down" which if you fail you might provoke them into a battle or they will scoff at you.
Taunt is usually if you want to start a fight.
---

If the player wants something along those options they can type what they say for the skill and give me the dice roll, if I ask them for a dice roll.

Tyki Mikk
02/10/2010, 09:55 AM
From my experience Taunt can be used in convos if, say... there is an npc guarding a certain pathway, and so the poster uses his taunt ability to throw insults and anger the npc, angering the npc enough to chase after the poster's character. So that another character can sneak past and enter the pathway.

But anyways, that's all I wanted to know. Thanks. From what I saw in your actual roleplaying thread I wasn't sure if you were going for the more traditional route or not.
